Dr. Sam Van Gorder returns to the Triangle after living and working in Seattle, WA since 2016. She was last in NC while pursuing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Duke University. Prior to earning her DPT, she received her BS in Exercise Science at Cal Lutheran University, where she also competed as a collegiate soccer player. While at Cal Lu, she tore her ACL (in addition to recently tearing her other ACL in 2024) which has allowed her to understand the highs and lows of the patient experience firsthand.
During her time in Seattle, Dr. Sam earned a fellowship in manual therapy. While she understands the value of hands-on work, her goal with treatment is to empower each client to find the movements and exercises that work best for them to reach their unique goals. She also likes to emphasize that PT doesn’t stop once pain and symptoms do, preventing future injuries and improving performance are critical, as well.
When not in the clinic, Dr. Sam enjoys being outside, whether that is hiking and paddleboarding with her wife, or hitting the slopes to snowboard with friends. Oh, and if you have a dog, she’ll want to pet it (she doesn’t have one yet!).
